OTP QUESTIONNARE; ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SHIP

1. Who are the ones in your ship?
ANSWER: Merida (Brave 2012) and Mulan (Mulan 1998)
2. Who’s the one that initiated the relationship/made the first move?
ANSWER: Merida is confident in what she says, but she can get flustered very quickly. She still is very playful, though, so she'd initiate the flirting stage. Mulan usually speaks her mind and she's very vocal about how she feels, so she'd be the one to initiate the actual relationship.

3. What’s the ship name?
ANSWER: In the OUAT fandom, their ship is called Brave Warrior, but if I were to combine their names for a ship name, I'd probably go for Merilan or Merlan. Honestly, though, my favorite ship name is the one I personally made for them which is: BowBlade.
4. What’s two emojis represent your ship?
ANSWER: 🏹🗡️

5. Is the ship romantic or platonic?
ANSWER: Romantic, but starts off as platonic.
6. Who’s the extroverted and who’s the introverted in the ship?
ANSWER: Mulan isn't afraid to speak her mind but she's actually quite awkward and sometimes shy. Opposed to Merida, who is very energetic and finds it easy to talk to people in general. So, Mulan is introverted and Merida is extroverted.

7. What’s an AU that your ship may have (example: high-school au)?
ANSWER: Soulmate au, secret relationship au, and social media aus are my top faves
8. Are there any headcanons/lore your ship has?
ANSWER: Unfortunately, no. Which is why I've dedicated my time to making lore and headcanons myself. It's actually really fun.
9. Where/when did your ship form?
ANSWER: In canon interactions, they were introduced through Merida's father in Once Upon A Time, and in Wreck it Ralph 2, they already had an established friendship.

10. What’s the go-to date/hangout spot your ship goes to?
ANSWER: They like to hangout together on top of Crone's Tooth mountain or they sit in Mulan's feng shui garden behind her house. They also go horse back riding in the Scottish highlands or they have picnics underneath Mulan's magnolia tree.
11. Who enjoys cooking more in your ship?
ANSWER: They like to hangout together on top of Crone's Tooth mountain or they sit in Mulan's feng shui garden behind her house. They also go horse back riding in the Scottish highlands or they have picnics underneath Mulan's magnolia tree.
12. Who enjoys cooking more in your ship?
ANSWER: Probably Mulan, because I don't think Merida knows how to cook. While Mulan doesn't like household chores, I think she'd view cooking as a basic human necessity, plus I figure she'd love to hear Merida's opinion on her cooking, seeing as how she's mainly cooking for her.

13. Who’s the protective type in your ship?
ANSWER: Honestly, they both are generally very protective of one another. But, since Merida is known to be more prone to getting into fights and arguments easily, I think Merida would be more protective and would assert dominance over anyone who so much as flirts with Mulan by fighting.
14. Is there someone in the ship that’s known to be colder than the other?
ANSWER: While they both are generally kind, Merida being naturally playful at heart and Mulan being jovial and fun-loving, Merida can be blunt without realizing it at times and this accompanied by her short temper can cause her to be more colder than she intends to be.

15. Who’s taller in your ship and who’s shorter?
ANSWER: Canonically, Merida is 5'5 (165 cm) and Mulan is 5'4 (163 cm) (Excuse me I need to weep, SHE'S LITERALLY 2 INCHES TALLER THAN HER AND I KNOW IT'S ONLY BECAUSE OF MERIDA'S HAIR, PLEASE)
16. Who in your ship enjoys showing affection more?
ANSWER: Merida, since Mulan is more laid-back and calm on the surface. Merida would definitely be glued to Mulan like a clingy puppy while Mulan just let's it happen with a kiss to her cheek or a petting of Merida's head here and there to let her girlfriend know she acknowledges her.

16. Could you see your ship getting marry and would it be a private ceremony or public?
ANSWER: I could definitely see them getting married, but only in an au could I see them getting married publicly. But, as for their main universe, just because it's a private ceremony doesn't make it any less special.
17. Who in the ship likes the indoors more and who likes the outdoors more?
ANSWER: They both enjoy the outdoors, but Mulan would probably prefer the indoors a tad bit more than Merida.

18. In your ship, who gets flustered/embarrassed/shy more?
ANSWER: Romantically, Merida does. As she's never experienced love nor romance before, being on the receiving end would make her flustered and unsure of how to handle it. Mulan loves to purposefully make her shy and flustered because she enjoys seeing her soft side. Sexually, Mulan does. She can feel a bit vain about her sexual abilities and performance, due to her always being told she'd bring honor to her family by being a wife, only ever pleasing her husband, and bearing children; Mulan has no experience with pleasing women sexually. This often results in sexual tension between the two. Mulan usually caves in first and ends up bottling her frustrations up, leaving in a shy manner. This only makes Merida more tempted to play the game of cat and mouse, enjoying chasing her and trying to win her over with her flirting, as Merida always loves a challenge, especially one that involves Mulan.
19. Does your ship enjoy alone time together or big hangouts with others?
ANSWER: They like a bit of both, but they moreso enjoy time alone with each other.

20. Who in the ship initiated the first kiss?
ANSWER: Mulan did, and it's only because Merida is so easily flustered and shy when it comes to acts of romance or romantic gestures, as she's had no experience with love before. Mulan hasn't either, not all that much aside from one relationship, but she mainly just follows her gut emotions (aka her heart) and acts on them. So, when Merida pulls back from the kiss, genuinely shocked and taken aback and asks "What did you do that for?" Mulan would just shrug and reply with, "My heart wanted to kiss you, so I did."
21. Does your ship prefer dressing up and going out or staying in and having a chill day together?
ANSWER: Neither of them really like dressing up to go places, but they do like going out with the other princesses together whenever they feel like taking a break from being domestic wives around the house, which is like 90% of their daily life, so yeah they'd rather stay in.

MORE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS TO BE ADDED

22. Is your ship canon?
ANSWER: THEY'RE CANON BECAUSE I SAID SO. (In all seriousness, no they're not canon, but they're canon in my heart and that's enough for me.)

REASONS TO SHIP BOWBLADE (MULAN X MERIDA)

1. They're both strong female characters (Mulan in terms of how she uses her intelligence to solve her problems, how she used her intelligence to adapt to the environment of an all out war and came out as a fierce warrior and savior of China. Merida in the sense that she realized the mistakes she made in an attempt to control her own life, admitted her faults, apologized for her wrongdoings, and learned from her mistakes, all while keeping her independent freedom.)2. They're an interracial ship3. They're both warriors4. Their color schemes compliment one another5. Calm (Mulan) x Full of Energy (Merida)6. Mulan could teach Merida about being more mature while Merida could bring Mulan out of her socially awkward shell.7. Mulan's intelligence and mannerisms could counteract Merida's childishness and (sometimes) carelessness, positively and negatively.8. Mulan could learn from Merida that she doesn't have to conform to her society's traditional expectations of her, as a woman, if it means losing a sense of who she truly is. And Merida can learn from Mulan that she can still be a princess and embrace her womanhood without feeling pressured to adhere to her society's expectations of what a perfect woman/princess should and shouldn't be. They can both learn to be their authentic selves while simultaneously being their own individual versions of a princess.9. Mulan is a bit clumsy, dorkish, and awkward at times. This, matched with Merida's sly remarks, mischievousness, and playfulness makes for a really cute dynamic.10. Although Mulan does tend to be awkward and clumsy in times of nervousness and/or pressure, Merida is seen to get overwhelmed very quickly and she freaks out, if not breaks down during times of stress. She also does various awkward gestures with her hands when she is upset, while Mulan is seen to play with her hair in times of stress. Taking this information and adding a love confession to it makes for an unbearably awkward scene to play out. Although, given how intelligent Mulan is and how she enjoys speaking her mind, she'd pick up on what Merida was having such a hard time articulating and she'd probably just kiss her to show her she reciprocated her feelings.

11. Merida would be blown away by Mulan, maybe even adorably fangirling over her being a female warrior, or at the very least having experience with being a soldier in an all-out war. Since Merida's society is very close-minded to women owning weapons and fighting alongside men, it's no doubt Merida would have never seen a woman like Mulan before. Merida would definitely fall in love first based solely on admiration, while it would take Mulan having to spend enough time around Merida to truly get to know her before she starts to feel the same.12. Merida and Mulan are the only two actual warriors among the princesses, but between them Mulan is by far the more experienced and knowledgeable. This would make for great training sessions (for example, if Merida wanted to learn how to fight with weapons other than a bow and arrow, or if she wanted to see how different hand-to-hand combat was between them). Also, Mulan could give her input on Merida's fighting techniques and they could both learn off of each other and how good of a fighter the other is. It makes for a good “person A and B are training together and they're both exerting themselves because they're having so much fun from seeing how the other fights that they don't even notice how tired they are, and once they reach a tie or a deadlock between swords, they just stand there breathing heavily, looking into each other's eyes, only just now realizing how beautiful the other's eyes look, how strangely beautiful one another's skin looks drenched in sweat, and whether they kiss or not will be entirely up to them.” moment.13. Sparring “partners”!! Running freely through a vast field together on horseback!! Picnics on the mountains they've climbed!! Merida persuading Mulan to help her ditch her princess training so they can run through the forest holding hands and exploring the vastness of it all!! “Private” training lessons, which Mulan tells her parents it's to ensure Merida is “entirety focused” on learning how to defend herself should a battle ever come!! Merida dragging Mulan away from her familial duties so they can run around the village, Merida stealing kisses here and there while Mulan tries to catch up with her, wearing the biggest smile and an even deeper blush!! Merida being invited to dinner as Mulan's “dear friend” and Mulan's family loving how lively and charismatic Merida is!!  Mulan and Merida stealing kisses in the feng shui garden behind Mulan's home and underneath the magnolia tree secluded from everyone else!!14. Mulan is battle trained, but Merida comes from a border and tribes always fighting each other. (She's been using weapons since she could walk) Mêlée and brawls vs armies and war. So their experiences are different, but that only makes them more accepting of one another, makes them more open and curious to experimenting with each other's fighting techniques.15. Since Mulan is more knowledgeable and experienced when it comes to battle, Merida would be the one to look to her for guidance and advice, and Merida especially would trust her read on situations that involve fighting. But, also Merida would be the one Mulan looks to in order to get a second opinion of her own because, despite their differences, they're the only two like each other. But, Merida doesn't only look to Mulan for guidance when it comes to fighting, she also is known to be very curious so she'd naturally have questions about her culture and how she does things, which Mulan will have no problem answering her. They both learn about one another's cultures not only through fighting.16. Mulan teaching Merida how to use chopsticks!! Merida teaching Mulan what a bagpipe is!! Mulan teaching Merida about hanfus and their importance to her culture!! Merida teaching Mulan about what a tartan is and why she wears one!!17. While Merida expresses her adventurous/tomboyish spirit through rebellion against her society's expectations of how a woman should and shouldn't act, Mulan silently daydreams constantly about how she wants to demonstrate her tomboyish/adventurous spirit. Merida could give Mulan an opportunity to act on her adventurous and tomboyish daydreams, ultimately giving Mulan an opportunity to be who she wants to be.18. Mulan is very similar to Merida, in the sense that neither of them can seem to follow the rules, regulations, or traditions of their cultural societies. While Merida refuses to conform because her society's expectations and traditions suffocate, overwhelm, and ultimately bore as well as anger her, Mulan is unable to conform to her society's expectations and norms because the constant injustice and sexism against women, herself included, makes her feel small and humiliated, as if she could never do anything right, especially considering whenever she goes against her society's sexism and injustice, whether it be intentional or not, she's always met with annoyance, anger, or disappointment. They could have a deep connection over this.19. Merida could teach Mulan that she doesn't have to adhere to her society's sexist and unjust traditions simply because she wants to prove herself to her family and make them happy. It could go like this:Merida: “So, ye put yerself in a position tae where ye'd be a bride to a lad ye don't even know?”Mulan: “Yes, it's part of my tradition.”Merida: “Ack. Tae hell wi' tradition. What about what you want?”Mulan: “... What?”Merida: “I said... What about what you want? Did ye put up wi' the matchmaker because that's what you wanted, because that's what yer family wanted, or because it's what yer society expected ye tae do?”Mulan: “Well... Of course it's what my society expected of me. But... I was mainly doing it for my family. I wanted to uphold the family honor. I wanted to prove myself to them, as I'd already uprooted the family tree..”Merida: “So, it's not what ye wanted, then?”Mulan: “No.. But it doesn't really matter what I-”Merida: “It doesn't matter what ye want? Lass, that's all that matters.”Mulan: “What... Do you mean?”Merida: “Me mum wanted me tae be married off tae some lad I didn't know, let alone even wanted to love. She didn't care about what I wanted, nor how I felt. She was one among the many examples of what my society expected of me, as a princess and as a woman. And ye know what I did in response?”Mulan: “... What did you do...?”Merida: “I told 'em no. I wouldn't contribute tae what my traditions wanted me to. Because it wasn't what I wanted. I wasn't ready for marriage, for being some lad's bride. I didn't want that kind o' life for meself, so I told 'em no.”Mulan: Even to your mother...? To your family?Merida: Aye, especially them. If me mum were ever actually listening to me, she'd notice the pressure she was putting me under from the start. Mulan, yer not living yer family's life. Yer living yer own. And if ye don't want tae do something, ye've got tae let yer voice be heard. Otherwise, society'll keep speaking over ye. Aye, it's a known fact that yer family always comes first, but at the end o' the day, ye don't live for them. Ye live for yerself. It's yer life, and if ye don't like something, if something doesn't truly make you happy, then ye need to take control and put an end to it. If yer family gets upset, like me mum did, trust me: they'll get over it. It's not up to you and you alone to uphold yer family's honor, I'm sure they'll love you regardless o' what ye do. Not tae mention, yer putting way too much weight on yer shoulders. No parent should want their children to suffer in silence, living a life they don't want, for the sake o' adhering tae society and tradition.Mulan: .........Merida: Ye don't have tae take all o' that tae heart, lass. I might have gotten carried a-It was then that Mulan began to sniffle and wipe her eyesMerida: Are you alright?? I didn't mean tae-Mulan: No... It's not you... It's just... I really needed to hear that. Thank you, Merida.Merida offered a warm smile Yer welcome, Mulan. At first, the silence was awkward, Merida fiddling with her hands and Mulan playing with her hair. It was then that Mulan turned her head, taking a long stare at Merida. Merida didn't move, only stared down at her hands, unsure of what to do, but feeling Mulan's eyes on her nonetheless. She was about to break the silence until Mulan shifted, laying her head on Merida's shoulder. Mulan sighed, letting a smile rise upon her features. Merida then smiled to herself, resting her cheek upon Mulan's head full of hair. They sat like that, underneath the pale moonlight, their heartbeats resonating with the pulses of the vegetation amongst the feng shui garden.ALTERNATIVE ENDING TO THIS SCENEMerida: “I told 'em no. I wouldn't contribute tae what my traditions wanted me to. Because it wasn't what I wanted. I wasn't ready for marriage, for being some lad's bride. I didn't want that kind o' life for myself, so I told 'em no.”Mulan: Even to your mother...? To your family?Merida: Aye, especially them. No parent should want their children to suffer in silence, living a life they don't want, for the sake o' adhering tae society and tradition.Mulan: .........Mulan: And what about when I do want to do something? What about my deepest desires and my wildest dreams?Merida: Then, ye grab 'em, run with 'em, and ye never let 'em go.Mulan's staring straight ahead, her eyes welling up with fresh tears, but she isn't sad, nor afraid. Is it because her heart has never beat this aggressively before? Is it because she knows that what she's about to say will go against everything her society stands for, but that overarching, unknown part of her is starting to care less and less? Is it because she can't even look at Merida, knowing that if she did, she'd melt on the spot? Whatever the reason, she spoke and her voice shook with every word. And, what if I want to be with you? What would you say, then?Merida's eyes never left Mulan, not even for a second. Despite how loud her heart was beating in her eardrums, despite how hot her skin felt just sitting this close to Mulan, she still managed a playful and inviting smirk I'd say, I'm not going anywhere.A moment of silence lingered between them. Then, in an instant, their pairs of lips were upon one another. Their hands venturing through each other's hair, squeezing one another's waists. Tongue gliding across tongue and wandering into one another's mouths, tasting the heated depths of each other's amorous entanglement. In a fit of desperate grunts and moans, they feverishly made out in the feng shui garden, the towering dragon statue watching over them in the moonlight. They simultaneously pulled away from each other, and in the midst of gasping for air, Merida asked, “What are we doing, lass..?” Not even trying to hide the excited shiver in her voice. To which Mulan cupped her face lovingly and replied, “We're living our lives, for ourselves and nobody else.”ALTERNATIVE ALTERNATIVE ENDING TO THIS SCENE:A moment of silence lingered between them. It was then that Mulan grabbed a bundle of Merida's dress in each of her fists and pushed her away, allowing the both of them a few breaths of air before Mulan swallowed, still tasting Merida on her tongue.Merida blinked, heaving. “Mulan...?”Mulan then scrambled to her feet once the thundering booms of the drum tower signaled the time of night. “Oh, I'm so sorry.... I... It's about time I get back to... Um.... My room.... Um...“ Without waiting for Merida to respond, Mulan offered a quick bow to the other princess and immediately turned on her heels and ran off to her house, leaving Merida in the garden, mouth slightly agape in utmost confusion.20. Both Mulan and Merida are free-spirited. Merida is courageous and daring, which matches well with Mulan's love for fun and adventure. They are both open-minded and they both enjoy the outdoors as well as horseback riding. They could go on many adventures together and I could even see them running away together to escape the pressures and oppressions of their societies out of sheer love for each other and out of the need to be free.

21. A big aspect of Mulan's character is how much she wants to bring honor to her family, and Merida's name means “honorable” in Gaelic.22. Merida enjoys wood carvings and carving into her wooden bow, and while Mulan's name means “Magnolia blossom/flower” it ALSO means “wood orchid”23. They both have a deep and intense love for their families, and they both specifically are closer to their fathers than their mothers in their films, which is interesting. It could make for a cute “fathers of the two women whom are so obviously attracted to each other silently ship them and want nothing but their daughters to be happy with one other” idea.24. They both dislike wearing tight dresses and general clothing pertaining to tightness. This could make for an intimate “Mulan loosening Merida's corset/Merida loosening the band around the waist of Mulan's hanfu” after one notices the other looking visibly uncomfortable, so they offer to take them to a room in the back to help the other get situated.25. Mulan often daydreams about demonstrating her adventurous/tomboyish spirit while Merida is openly, freely, vibrantly tomboyish. This could make for a good “Mulan daydreaming about how it would feel if she could exert her adventurous/tomboyish nature > Mulan admiring Merida's bold adventurous/tomboyish spirit > Mulan daydreaming about Merida demonstrating the adventurous/tomboyish spirit Mulan so desperately wants to express > Mulan full-on daydreaming about Merida and Merida alone” progression.26. It's cute how Mulan loves spicy foods while Merida loves sweets. Their picnic contents would be polar opposites, but they'd still enjoy eating with one another. Also, ties back in with the calm x full of energy ship. Mulan is absolutely calm and laid back whilst eating the spiciest, hottest east Asian cuisine known to man versus Merida who's eating so many pastries and deserts you could get a cavity just by looking at her food and with every bite, she gets more and more hyper in the smallest of ways (i.e. bouncing her leg, wiggling her feet, speaking faster, giggling, random outbursts of laughter)27. Similar to Merida, Mulan proved that destiny, contrary to what her culture says, is NOT written in stone. Rather, it is determined by the choices that people make.28. Mulan and Merida's overall chemistry and “close friendship” in Once Upon A Time really adds more to their ship. For example:29. Merida first meeting Mulan being impressed and positively taken aback by Mulan, a fierce warrior, being a woman. She welcomed that fact and Merida was clearly stunned by the beauty Mulan exerted through her strength.30. Mulan was tasked with keeping Merida from going into battle with her father under the disguise of being hired by her father to aid Merida in expanding her fighting skills. She didn't tell Merida her true task, because Merida's father ordered her not to for the sake and safety of Merida, which Mulan took as her sworn duty.31. There are various moments where Mulan is seen holding Merida back while Merida is angry, ready to fight, or is distressed.32. Mulan held Merida as she screamed and cried watching her father die.33. After an unknown timespan of being separated from each other, after Merida's father's death, Merida takes it upon herself to travel, looking for Mulan and tracking her down, originally paying her to help her save her kingdom and her family, however she constantly asked Mulan what had happened to her and why she closed her heart off to her along the way, visibly getting fed up by Mulan's distance towards her. Side note, the tavern scene introduces one of my favorite lines of dialogue between them:Merida: You're daft taking on these brutes by yourself.Mulan: I had it under control. What are you doing here?Merida: Looking for you.34. Mulan acted stand-offish and distant towards Merida once they were reunited, but once Zelena mocked Merida, Mulan was very quick to tell her to back off.35. Mulan tells Merida to not give up at one point, to which Merida says that Mulan already has, so she (herself) can give up now too. This is both referring to Mulan closing off her heart and losing her sense of honor and ALSO showing that Merida's drive for moving forward IS Mulan, to a certain extent. Also, Mulan is visibly hurt by Merida's response in this scene. Mulan, who's closed off her heart and who's supposedly only cared for herself, has been HURT by Merida, someone she clearly holds dear for her to affect her like that.36. At one point, Merida is tempted to kill Arthur, but Mulan is the one to talk her out of it.37. At the end of their journey, Merida again asks Mulan why she was so distant with her at first and Mulan hesitates and noticeabley tries not to look at Merida before finally sighing, looking her in the eyes and telling her she was trying to get over a broken heart (caused by Aurora, unbeknownst to Aurora herself, but still). To which Merida at first stares at her silently before telling her she's sorry for her. (The camera work and usage of music in this scene is telling because immediately after Mulan says “I was trying to get over a broken heart.” the camera immediately switches to Merida's face, seconds before she even says anything, and there is a noticable, faint but noticable, swell in the music that's playing at this time, when it shows Merida staring at Mulan).38. When they're saying their goodbyes for good, they share a hug, and Merida watches Mulan leave with teary eyes (granted, she's about to communicate with the ghost of her dead father, BUT I like to think it's also because she's saying goodbye to Mulan, someone she clearly cares deeply for) and Mulan looks back at Merida one last time with a noticabley sad smile before finally turning away and leaving with Ruby.39. There are definitely romantic undertones throughout their friendship, whether the writers intended for it to be there or not. I personally feel like Brave Warrior (Mulan and Merida's ship name amongst the ouat fandom) is a typical case of “Show, Don't Tell” from the lingering eye contact/stares to the small smiles, to the the way their personalities naturally compliment each other, to that obvious sexual tension in the tavern scene, to the sheer sadness of their departure, the scene feeling as if they both still have so much they want to say (or maybe even confess) to each other, how it feels like neither of them wanted to say goodbye, how neither of them were ready to leave the other's side just yet.Taking all of this into account, it's safe to say that Merida and Mulan's relationship in Once Upon A Time only adds more layers and depth to the Disney ship between Merida and Mulan as a whole.

40. Merida and Mulan are both described as adventurous by spirit and free-spirited. The movie Mulan deals with praying to Mulan's ancestors, whom are watching over her and her family via their spirits, while also dealing with Mulan's grandmother's premonition or vision of Mulan running off to the war in her father's place as soon as Mulan herself left to do so. The movie Brave deals with the concept of magic spells relating to mending familial bonds and Will O' Wisps which are spiritual and ethereal beings that represent past lives and leads one to their fate and destiny. These are both important parts of the individual movies. Both movies deal with spiritual lineage or occurrences, which I find interesting.41. Apparently, Mulan's birthday is March 27, and Aries birth dates are between March 21 and April 19. Meaning, Mulan is an Aries. Merida's birthday is unclear, but considering Brave was released on the 22nd of June, and the movie opens up with Fergus giving Merida a bow for her birthday, and Sagittarius birth dates start from November 22 to December 21, I'm going to assume Merida's birthday is November 22nd, making her a Sagittarius.Aries are fire signs, which speaks for Mulan's usage of fire and fireworks in her movie. The symbol is a Ram, and the Ram has appeared in artworks and considered auspicious animal symbol throughout Chinese history, due to its auspicious implications. According to Shuowen by Xu Shen, the Ram, or Yang in Chinese, means auspiciousness or good fortune. This is also a good time to point out that Mulan's side of the Yin and Yang necklace is the Yang side, associated with masculinity. The Sagittarius symbol is an Archer, which is more than self explanatory for Merida and the importance of archery to her and her character. It is also important to note that Merida displays characteristics of being a Sagittarius because although she is honest and forth-coming, her impatience, restlessness, and love affair with nature often lands her in hot water when faced with responsibility. She is a free-spirited young girl with wild hair, riding a horse through the woods, shooting arrows at any target that passes by. Merida couldn’t be more of a symbol for Sagittarius if she tried. This is a young girl burdened by her frustrations around not being able to determine her own fate. She wants to be free to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and she feels like the limitations of being a girl and of her mother hold her back from being herself. Her father supports her desire to be a tomboy fully, and she relates to him much better. But in the end it is her mother too that understands her; her own views were forcibly transformed by her independent daughter, as the parents of Sagittarius children often are.Sagittarius is also a fire sign. Archery seems to have been at best fitful in Ireland but in the Scottish highlands it was a key skill for the highland warrior and a significant factor in their martial culture.42. Looking up “is Sagittarius and Aries a good match?” will get you this answer: Aries and Sagittarius is a great match, and you have much in common. You're both highly adventurous and curious, active, spontaneous, outgoing and fun loving. Not many other signs can keep up with either of you, but in each other you've not only found someone who can, but who will enjoy the challenge of doing so.If you dive deeper into their compatibility, you'll be met with more in-depth results. For example:43. Can Sagittarius and Aries be soulmates?Sagittarius and Aries as Soulmates - An Adventurous coupleThe Sagittarius and the Aries are literally made for each other. There are no other signs that could have such a perfect relationship. ... All in all, it is the similarities and common traits that keep them together, and also what make this couple a great one.44. Can a Sagittarius marry an Aries?Aries and Sagittarius make an ideal combination and the compatibility between the two zodiac signs is quite good. The relationship between the two will be full of enthusiasm, passion, zeal and adventure. Both of them will complement each other in almost every way and there will be a light playfulness in the love match. The energy levels of both, an Aries as well as a Sagittarian, are quite high and neither of them will be required to subdue her enthusiasm even a slightest bit. Sagittarius will never ever feel threatened by the aggressiveness of Aries and Aries will add to the strength of Sagittarius.45. Sagittarius and Aries Compatibility:ARIES & SAGITTARIUS SEXUAL & INTIMACY COMPATIBILITY - 95%When Aries and Sagittarius engage in sexual relations it can be quite funny. Sagittarius partner has this innate ability to make a joke out of almost anything. The seriousness of an Aries when sex is in question is something that gives Sagittarius a strong impulse to make a joke. These are two Fire signs, both very passionate, each one in their own way. Aries is passionate when it comes to action, new things and of course – naked people and specific sexual positions. Sagittarius is passionate about their cheerful personality. You have to understand that Sagittarius really only cares about their opinions, convictions and moral value. They can spend their entire life analyzing these to see if they are wrong or right and search for the universal truth. When it comes to their optimism and good mood, they passionately protect them from anything too serious or hard. If they let someone taint them, it would shake their conviction that they should always smile and find a reason to be happy.Although Aries can be a bit vain about their sexual abilities and performance, in most cases Sagittarius is able to break this wall of strict, sexual tension and lead them to a more relaxed zone where they can relax and experiment.ARIES & SAGITTARIUS TRUST - 70%Aries and Sagittarius are both aware of the excessive need for honesty in their life. Usually they don’t have to talk much to understand each other and can easily spot when the other one is lying. This makes it extremely hard to create a situation of mistrust, especially because of the feeling of security Sagittarius partner gives to Aries, by taking everything in with dignity and serenity. In most situations Aries feels they can share anything with their Sagittarius partner. The problem could appear if they have different views on the seriousness and depth of their relationship. If this is the case, usually a Sagittarius partner sees Aries as a short term, not that important partner. This is why they could easily cheat on them and probably wouldn’t even call it cheating. In return, Aries partner that values their relationship more, would jump into their possessive nature with even more ease and never trust their Sagittarius partner again.ARIES & SAGITTARIUS COMMUNICATION AND INTELLECT - 90%This is a wonderful bond that is often seen in friendships that last for years. Their mutual understanding can be so deep, that even if they lack physical attraction, they would gladly substitute it with a life spent in this kind of intellectual relationship. They motivate and push each other wherever they might like to go. When they are together, they make each other feel as if nothing is impossible. While Aries gives initiative and focus, Sagittarius gives vision and faith. These signs are ruled by Mars and Jupiter, which means that they could have some disagreements on their convictions. In case these are not convictions they think of as their personality’s foundation, this shouldn’t be a huge problem. Still, it is possible for their set of beliefs to differ too much for them to even understand each other. When this happens, they fight whenever and wherever they can, since none of them has the ability to let their convictions go. Aries because they want to win, and Sagittarius because convictions are their forte and something they have surely thought about a lot.ARIES & SAGITTARIUS EMOTIONS - 90%When they fall in love with each other, deeply and sincerely, it is almost possible for their passers-by to warm up in the middle of winter. These are extremely warm signs, due to their corresponding element of Fire, open for any kind of activity just to share time together and feel that wonderful emotion in their stomach. This is a love that could last for a very long time, for as long as their respect their personal needs, individuality and the distance they possibly need from each other every once in a while.Although they are not considered very emotional, it is a mistake to assign emotionality only to the element of Water. This is an element which works from the heart and you can feel it in your chest. In search for an explanation of emotional nature of Fire signs, you should just imagine that warm feeling in your belly and that would be the best possible description. Their emotions are active, warm and on the move. Always changeable but creative and there to move them anywhere they want to go.ARIES & SAGITTARIUS VALUES - 70%Aries partner values things that are brought up to a higher level by their Sagittarius. In time they will both understand that Aries grows through this relationship and widens their entire system of values. When they started dating, Aries probably had this idea of honor and heroic “sweep off feet” logic. In time, they both must have realized that Sagittarius gives this idea a new step up and brings it into a world of royalty. Not only does Sagittarius value honorable and heroic people, too, but they value honorable people with blue blood that give money and food to the poor, every day.Their main difference is in the fact that Aries values things concise and clear, while Sagittarius will easily disperse and go around the point for days. This can be met through their mutual value of truth, so honesty can be their cure for anything.ARIES & SAGITTARIUS SHARED ACTIVITIES - 99%Aries is a sign in which Saturn falls. This means that they easily get tired or just bored and they always need new and exciting stimulations. Sagittarius is a sign of mutable quality, ready to change whatever needs changing in order to feel good. When they get together, their activities can be shared and fun whatever they are. This has nothing to do with their needs and tendencies, but with the potential of their entire relationship. They can go for coffee and they would have fun, but they could also go bungee jumping together and have even more fun. It is all the same to them. They are fully capable of respecting each other’s personality, so even if their wishes for certain activities differ, this would be easily dealt with.46. IN CONCLUSION -This is definitely a couple with lots of potential. They might have to stand up to their environment and defend their feelings from others, but this won’t shake them too much, for neither of them thinks that much about the opinion of others anyway. If they manage to mend their philosophical differences and respect each other’s different opinions, they could become one of the warmest relationships in the zodiac. Their main relationship advice would be to always tell the truth to each other and not go crazy about their healthy differences. Their differences are exactly the thing that could make their sexual life more exciting.

47. Mulan has a dog named Little Brother and he's named that because she's the only child in her family and she doesn't have a brother. Merida has three little brothers whom she regularly dotes on and two dogs. With the addition of Mulan and Merida being close with one another, it'd also give Mulan a chance to be experience what it would be like to have a little brother through Harris, Hamish, and Hubert. I could imagine multiple scenarios where Merida is fed up by their mischief one day and is seen running after the three of them and they purposefully run and hide behind Mulan, who coddles them while reprimanding her angry girlfriend.48. It's cute how Mulan is essentially a farm girl in a small village while Merida is a royal princess who resides in a kingdom. Bringing these elements to their ship really shines on how they both subvert expectations: Mulan isn't the stereotypical farm girl trope, she's very soft-spoken at first, she's awkward, and she's constantly messing up. She's not stereotypically stupid, either, she's very intelligent and she invents contraptions for her dog to help her out with the chores. Merida isn't stuck up nor is she full of herself like the stereotypical royal princess trope would be, in fact she goes out of her way to NOT be a stereotypical princess and constantly states that she merely wishes to be her tomboyish self, a normal girl, that she's not ready to be in a position of royalty and forced marriages for the sake of the kingdom.49. Mulan enjoys hikes while Merida enjoys exploring. This, paired with the fact that they both love the outdoors could make for a good “Mulan and Merida are out on a hike, or rather, MULAN is on a hike while MERIDA is exploring every single thing she grows curious about and ushers Mulan over, making Mulan's “hike” more like a miniature adventure date, minus the danger this time” romantic plot.50. They both are well-skilled in fishing, and this just makes me imagine them living in a remote farmhouse of sorts smack in the middle of the Scottish highlands where they both go out in the mornings and go fishing by the stream together, then come back home and Mulan teaches Merida how to cook fish and they eat together in front of their house underneath a big magnolia tree a few feet away from the stables (which Mulan invented herself) where their horses are kept.MERIDA AND MULAN'S NAMES, THEIR MEANINGS, AND HOW THESE MEANINGS TIE INTO THEM BEING SOULMATES:51. Merida's name essentially means "one who has achieved a high honor." which I noticed directly references Mulan's entire drive and purpose to bring honor to her family in her movie. Merida also means "Pearl." The pearl is a symbol of perfection and incorruptibility; it is a symbol of a long life, and because of its luster it is often considered a MOON symbol. Buried within the oyster shell, the pearl represents hidden knowledge, and it is said to channel feminine energy.I'm going to break down each meaning:Perfection - "A princess strives for.. well, perfection" Elinor to Merida.Incorruptibility - Although she did act impulsively and selfishly, she never became corrupt and was always true to herself and what she needed in her life.Long life - The Will-O-Wisps in Brave represent souls of past lives, and it's implied that's what happens to anyone who dies in the Brave universe. So, if Merida were to ever die, she'd undoubtedly come back as a Will-O-Wisp, so long as she had unfinished business.Hidden knowledge - She IS intelligent, just in different fields. For example, archery.Channel feminine energy - While Merida is obviously a huge (COUGH butch lesbian) tomboy in her movie, she still showcases her femininity in her own way. She channels her version of femininity rather than Elinor's idealized version of what femininity should and shouldn't be.52. In Chinese culture, pearls are a symbol of wisdom. People believed pearls were formed inside the head of a dragon. Once they were fully grown, the dragon carried them between its teeth. According to the myth, a person could only gather the pearls by slaying the dragon to death.53. This is important because it's canon that Mulan is a metaphorical personification of the dragon statue in the garden that watches over/protects her family. Mulan IS the dragon; Merida IS the pearl: a person could ONLY gather the dragon's pearls by slaying the dragon to death.54. Mulan's name has two meanings. "Magnolia" and "Wood orchid" The orchid means refined beauty in flower language. In Chinese culture, magnolias symbolized dignity and nobility. In ancient China, magnolias were thought to be the perfect symbols of womanly beauty and gentleness.55. Magnolia trees symbolize a "love for nature" among other symbolizations, and it's canon that both Mulan and Merida LOVE nature and the outdoors. In conclusion, they're nature-loving soulmates bounded by and connected by nature and you'd have to kill Mulan before taking Merida, her pearl, from her.MULAN AND MERIDA'S ORIGINS AND HOW THEY TIE TOGETHER, FURTHERMORE LINKING THEM AS SOULMATES

56. Early on in the development of Mulan, the movie was originally going to be a bit more of a slapstick comedy with Mulan being more of a tomboy than she originally was in the official film who did not want to get married. She was very much at odds with her father who was so adamant on Mulan marrying that he carves her destiny onto a stone tablet which Mulan then slices into two with her sword before running away from home.57. This is very far from the original telling of Mulan and even the rewritings of The Ballad of Mulan, as it is more of a western idea and not at all how the original stories of Mulan portrayed her kind and loving father, however this original idea for Mulan is eerily similiar to Merida, a flamboyantly tomboy princess who doesn't want to marry a man and is at an odds with her strict mother, whom had stitched an ideal of their family onto a tapestry which Merida slices in half in a fit of outrage and anger on the night she and her mother are quite literally torn apart by their individual pride.58. These two films, Mulan (1998) and Brave (2012), seperated by many many years; The Ballad of Mulan has been rewritten and retold countless times throughout centuries, whilst Brave was a personal, original story made by a woman whom wanted to both create an emotional story inspired by her and her daughter's relationship whilst also creating a princess for her daughter to look up to. How could these two entirely different stories be connected by this similar theme of a young tomboy in a predominantly male society who didn't want to be married off to a man and a parent and a child separating due to their differences in personality/authority?59. Well, Disney's original interpretation of the setup for the movie Mulan, involving the slicing of the stone, was written by a man named Robert D. San Souci and he also wrote a book called Fa Mulan: The Story of a Woman Warrior which was based off of all of the original mythic folklore of Mulan, however he also wrote a story called Brave Margaret: An Irish Adventure which was a story that is heavily influenced by Celtic mythology and arthurian legend and the main protagonist follows a young girl with long, curly, flowing, and wild red hair. She fights dragons, she's very brave, and she is essentially a warrior. A lot of people have speculated that the aesthetic of Merida was inspired by the aesthetic of Margaret. While the character herself doesn't really have any similarities to Merida, however her overall aesthetic is eerily similar, if not identical to Merida.60. It's a very fascinating connection between these two Disney princesses and further solidifies that Mulan and Merida are soulmates. Both their movies were inspired by characters from books that were made by the same author. One could say Brave was made from Mulan, as it's obvious that when they were adapting Brave, they took some inspiration from the original setup for Mulan regarding the stone tablet and they put it into Brave with the tapestry to give Merida and Elinor's torn relationship more of a symbolic, metaphorical, and overall visual representation of being torn apart by pride and having to mend their bond.61. So, yes, one could say that Brave was made from the original idea for Mulan, however the way I see it is this: Mulan and Merida were made to be together, intentional or not. Mulan was originally going to have the same conflict as Merida, only with her father. She was originally going to have the same breaking point with her father as Merida did with her mother. She was originally going to directly mirror Merida. Instead, she was given a more healthy relationship with her father, one more accurate to the original tellings of The Ballad of Mulan. But this shows that Mulan still very much mirrors Merida in more ways than one. Mulan fell out with her father out of love for him and disobeyed him as a means to save his life and bring honor to her family. Merida fell out with her mother out of frustration with her mother enforcing the unfair arranged marriage without Merida's consent, and Merida rebelled against her mother out of a need to change her ways of percieving and treating her, as her child. After accidently changing her into a bear, she travels to find a way to change her back constantly risking her life to save her. Mulan and Merida still have these themes of parent-daughter relationships and communication complications due to the parent's overlapping authority.62. While I personally feel like Fa Zhou makes Mulan feel seen and heard much more than Elinor does for Merida, the fact that Mulan and Merida were both inspired by characters in books written by the same author, and that same author originally had the idea for Mulan to directly mirror Merida in terms of tearing apart her relationship with a parent whom was forcing her to do something she knew wasn't right for her, speaks volumes.63. The definition of a soulmate is 1. A person who is perfectly suited to another in temperament (temperament: a person or animal's nature, especially as it permanently affects their behavior. Synonyms: character, personality, spirit) 2. A person who strongly resembles another in attitudes or beliefs. There are 12 different types of soulmates, and the one that describes Mulan and Merida the most would be Twin Flames.64. A twin flame is an intense soul connection with someone thought to be a person's other half, sometimes called a "mirror soul." It's based on the idea that sometimes one soul gets split into two bodies. One of the main characteristics of a twin flame relationship is that it will be both challenging and healing.65. Given the fact that they are both fire signs, both are seen to have a relation to fire (Mulan: “a girl can bring honor to her family by striking a good match” her using Mushu's fire to light the firework that struck the mountain, causing the avalanche, and her using the fireworks again to defeat Shan Yu. Merida: Climbed the mountain and drank from the fire falls, Merida's showdown against her father and essentially the men whilst protecting her mother, surrounded by torches, and Merida's hair being referred to as fiery red, even she herself usually being referred to as fiery.), and the fact that both of them harbour so many similarities, it's very fitting for them to be twin flames.66. It is also very telling that Mulan is the only character whom Merida was seen to canonically have a close relationship with outside of Brave. In Once Upon A Time, Ralph Breaks The Internet, and Pocket Princesses, Merida and Mulan are seen to have a close relationship, one that can easily be interpreted as both romantic and platonic. An excerpt from an article on twin flame, explaining how you know you've found a twin flame of your own: "You'll find that things just keep bringing you together in random ways. Could be months, years, even decades; you just always find your way back to one another."67. Another excerpt from an article about Twin Flames: "The emphasis on a twin flame relationship is a spiritual connection where you feel a familiarity and polarity with a person. This can take the form of a friend or even an acquaintance," she says. In most cases, though, romance seems to be more common.” Whether you view them as romantic or not, you can't deny the fact that in every form of media they've been in together they are fond of each other and they share a strong bond with one another. If that's not definite proof of Merida and Mulan being Twin Flame soulmates, I don't know what is.

MERIDA AND MULAN'S FLAWS/WEAKNESSES, HOW ONE COMPLIMENTS THE OTHER, AND HOW THIS TIES INTO THEM BEING SOULMATES68. It's clear that Mulan lacks confidence in herself and her own worth given how she feels as if it's her responsibility to bring honor to her family, her ancestors, and ultimately her society. At times she is shaky when making decisions or she just makes things up as she goes, and she is shy and awkward around other people to the point where Mushu had to direct her on what to do and how to fit in, which is understandable given how women were treated during her time period. She's not a very good liar, which is a serious drawback when she's disguising herself as a man, and she is also somewhat reckless, which puts her in real danger more than once.69. Merida is stubborn, unruly, and impulsive. She has a slight inability to listen to others and usually goes with what she thinks is right in the moment. She is also short tempered, this with the addition of her being impulsive causes her to do things without considering the consequences her actions can lead to. She can also be slightly selfish, however Merida can understand when she is in the wrong and will do her best to right her wrongdoings. Despite her impulsiveness and short tempered nature, Merida can keep a calm head in dangerous situations. She is also known to be quick-witted, whether her quick-thinking works for better or worse.70. Now that Mulan and Merida's character flaws/weaknesses are laid out for us, let's explain how one compliments the other and essentially how they both bring out the best in each other whilst keeping the concept of twin flame soulmates in mind.MULAN71. She lacks self-confidence and self worth; Merida is bold and rather confident in who she is and who she wants to be. SOLUTION: Merida would be the one to show Mulan her self worth by appreciating and admiring her for who she is and for her strength. This would cause Mulan to gain self-confidence in herself. To truly know and love herself, her true self, the Mulan that Merida adores.72. She is shaky when making decisions and tends to make things up as she goes; Merida can keep a calm head in dangerous situations and she is known to be quick-witted. SOLUTION: Whenever Mulan is stumbling on a decision, Merida could be there to calm her into the right mindset. Whenever Mulan is at risk of making a reckless decision due to her tendencies of just winging it, Merida can be the one to use her quick thinking to conjure up a solution that would better the entire situation at hand.73. She is shy and awkward around other people to the point where she sometimes needs to be directed by someone else in terms of how to fit in, given how she's treated as a woman in her society; Merida is bold, daring, loud, and seemingly uncaring when it comes to the way her society views her. In fact, she refuses to be subservient to the customs traditions, and social restrictions her society places on her and expects her to follow. SOLUTION: Merida could teach Mulan that she doesn't need to conform to her society's expectations of her if it's not who she really is, that she needs to be proud of who she is, not who she's struggling to be for the sake of her family, for her to be free amongst her society. “And if you still don't feel free now...” Merida trailed off. She then started again, meeting Mulan's gaze. “We can go anywhere you want, lass.”MERIDA74. Merida is stubborn, unruly, and impulsive; Mulan is dogmatic, modest, and is known to be impulsive as well. SOLUTION: Mulan's dogmatism mixed with her tendency to really speak her mind could really make for a great dynamic of Merida refusing to change her attitude but Mulan really articulating her certain boundaries or exceptions when it comes to the way Merida acts sometimes, refusing to put her foot down and sticking to her guidelines, albeit respectfully, would cause Merida to listen. Mulan, being modest at heart, would probably play with her hair shyly at Merida's unruly tendencies but still find time to laugh and smile at her wildness. They are both impulsive, which would make for a pair of wild warrior women running across the Scottish highlands late at night or sword fights on horseback based solely off of impulsive suggestions to have fun with one another.75. Merida has a bit of an inability to listen to others and usually goes with what she thinks is right in the moment; Mulan always speaks her mind, as she is very opinionated and outspoken. SOLUTION: Mulan could definitely make Merida listen to her, whether she wanted to hear what she has to say or not. Mulan is good at saying things in ways that make her words stay with you, given her pensiveness in terms of speaking.76. Merida's impulsiveness with the addition of her somewhat short temper causes her to do things without considering the consequences her actions can lead to; Mulan is impulsive as well but her self-consciousness causes her to be hyper aware of how others might perceive her and her actions. SOLUTION: Due to Mulan's tendencies to being hyper aware of the way she appears to others, she could also be hyper aware of Merida's non-consideration towards the consequences of her impulsive actions, stemming from how she could most definitely be hyper aware of how people view Merida, someone Mulan holds dear to her heart. Thus, she'd probably offer some quick-witted warnings for Merida to really think about the consequences of certain actions she takes.77. Merida is known to be selfish at times; Mulan is known to be selfless. SOLUTION: Merida could learn from Mulan to be more selfless in terms of making decisions and taking action based off of all parties involved in the situation, not just herself and her own feelings. However, Mulan could also learn from Merida that it's alright to put yourself and your own feelings first sometimes.78. Taking all of this into account, let's keep this excerpt from an article on Twin Flames in mind: “This is due to the mirroring nature of a twin flame; they show you your deepest insecurities, fears, and shadows. But they also help you overcome them and vice versa—your twin flame will be equally affected by you.”“Importantly, each person is still ‘whole’ on their own,” says licensed psychotherapist Babita Spinelli. "There is a misnomer that a twin flame completes you," she explains. "In reality, relationships are meant to encourage you to be more complete in your own right."79. Mulan and Merida both share these canon character traits:AdventurousFree-SpiritedCourageousQuick- WittedIndependentImpulsiveOutdoorsyOutspokenSneakyTomboyish80. Another exert from an article on Twin Flames: “You and your twin flame may find that you have a lot in common as far as values, past experiences, and interests,” Spinelli adds. "Both of you will find that your past story has a lot of coincidences and similar experiences."

MULAN AND MERIDA AT THEIR CORE, AND HOW THEY ARE EACH OTHER'S OTHER HALVES81. This point has been made before, but it's interesting how essentially Mulan is a farm girl who cares for her chickens and her horse, literally just a regular girl, before going into war for her father. And Merida is a royal princess who lives in a huge castle and rules a kingdom underneath her mother and father.82. They both come from entirely different backgrounds and cultures, but at their core, they're both the same: two girls who don't want to appeal to their society's expectations of them, as women, and a conflict forces them to take matters into their own hands.83. Mulan: Her society expects her sick father to fight in the war because he's a man, not caring about his fragility. Her society goes as far as killing women who are in the army simply because they're women, as her society only expects women to bare sons and appease their husbands. She is quite literally risking her life by going into war out of love for her father, despite her gender being hidden, because she is a woman.84. Merida: Her society (mainly metaphorically portrayed by her mother) expects her to follow the traditions of forced marriages at a bizarrely young age. She has her entire life planned for her without her consent, although she's not ready for it and never will be. She is tired of essentially being silenced by almost everyone around her, her own mother included. Her society doesn't care, however, as it's what they expect of her as a woman: to be a docile lamb whom silently follows the rules and regulations of their traditions and society.85. It's very interesting to think about how Merida would KILL to be in Mulan's place (before she went off to the war), to just be a normal girl. Being THE princess of her kingdom, the prime example, is overwhelming for Merida, as she just wants to live her own life.86. It's also interesting to think about how Mulan would greatly admire Merida, maybe even envy her, for being able to bestow honor among her family and her kingdom by the end of her journey with her mother, all while remaining true to herself, as that's all Mulan wanted in her movie (i.e. "Reflection").87. In short, they are what the other has been craving all their lives, in terms of escapism, freedom, self-worth, and self-discovery.

HEADCANONS (MORE TO BE ADDED)

1. Given how both Mulan (1998) and Brave (2012) deal with supernatural occurrences and spiritual beings, I headcanon that they're spiritually married.SCENARIO 01:Mulan's grandmother saw a premonition of sorts, explaining to Mulan that she'd soon meet her soulmate. This, being before Mulan set out on an expedition to the British Isles with Shang Li and a few of his men. Meanwhile, Merida sets out on another one of her adventures, following the Will O' Wisps, as they beckoned her to her new-found destiny. Mulan stops by a stream, slightly deep within the forest and pauses when she feels a presence. She stands and is met with Merida, who is staring at her with a look of wonder. Adding onto Mulan's confusion, Merida then utters the words “Are... Are YOU my destiny??”SCENARIO 02:Mulan and Merida have an established relationship, one that's hidden from both their families and their peers. They regularly sneak off together to make out in the privacy of Mulan's feng shui garden or have a picnic atop the Crone's Tooth mountain or run across the Scottish highlands on horseback together or Merida will subtlety drag Mulan off to the confinement of her chambers. One day, Mulan visits Merida in tears, telling her that a well-respected warrior of the eastern region has heard great tales of Mulan and her heroism, and wants to have a woman of her warrior status married into his dynasty. Mulan is completely at a loss, and she and Merida share a tearful hug.In a frustrated outburst, Mulan yells “I HATE this! I hate that it isn't you! and breaks down, crying and shaking in Merida's arms, a rare sight for Merida to see from Mulan. And Merida, while equally distraught and horrified, is moreso angered by the mere thought of someone taking Mulan from her. So, while Mulan rests in a guest chamber that's relatively close to Merida's room, Merida sets out to find the old witch, and begs her to find a way to change the fate of she and Mulan's love. The witch tells her that while the warrior's decision for Mulan's hand in marriage cannot be undone, there is a way Merida and Mulan's love can be secured, protected, and above all else, officially pronounced, albeit spiritually. Merida asks for the witch to elaborate on this, and the witch explains that she would make a special dust that, when sprinkled onto a symbol of their love, will mend their very souls together, forevermore.Merida paid whatever the witch requested and in return acquired the magic dust. Secretly buying two wedding rings in the same day shortly after, she returned back to the guest chamber, only to find that Mulan had already returned home. The next time they saw each other, Merida told Mulan that she didn't have to worry, and that no one would take Mulan's hand in marriage before her.Mulan shook her head, confused. “Merida, what do you mean...?”To this, Merida replied, “I mean, this isn't the end of us. And it never will be.”The following weeks leading up to Mulan's wedding ceremony were bittersweet: Mulan taking every opportunity she could to run off with Merida, kissing her desperately and with every day that inched closer to the wedding, Mulan's kisses were filled with more tears, more crying, longer embraces, clinging onto Merida tighter. It wasn't until the day of her wedding that Merida came to her before anyone else did, telling her of her visit with the witch, telling her how she found a way for them to be officially pronounced as sworn lovers, even if it were only amongst themselves and themselves alone. Then, she revealed the rings.Mulan was enraged that Merida hadn't told her sooner, yelling at her through angry tears. To which Merida replied simply with, “I wanted tae see my wife in her wedding dress.”Mulan went silent at that, shaking her head with a tearful laugh. “What am I gonna do with you?”To which Merida raised her eyebrows with a smile. “Marry me before that brute assumes you're actually his wife?”Mulan stammers, “We.. Don't have enough time for vows..”Merida chuckled in response. “As if words are enough tae describe my eternal love for ye. Besides... We both already know.”Mulan smiled, nodding in agreement. “We do.”It was then that Merida sprinkled the witch's magic dust onto their matching rings. They slid the rings onto each other's index fingers, both of them planting a kiss the rings of their adjacent lover, then each other, tenderly pressing their lips together passionately. They shared a loving embrace, afterwards, and Merida held both their rings while Mulan was ushered by her mother and grandmother (who'd nearly caught them had it not been for Mulan's sharp reflexes) to attend her second wedding ceremony for the day.As she and the warrior were pronounced man and wife, Mulan and Merida shared a glance, the two of them knowing it wasn't even in near proximity to being as real as their spiritual wedding just moments before, these piles of meaningless words never measuring up to the everlasting promise the two women's souls made with each other that day.Ever since then, the Will O' Wisps have acted as beacons for whenever Mulan or Merida wanted to see the other, always leading the two wives to each other without fail. They still sneak off together, still hide their love behind their families backs, but now whenever they leave each other for the day, their souls remain intertwined by an invisible thread of pure, true love.Their apparitions appear before each other in the form of fantasies, illusions, or daydreams whenever they're without the other. Whenever one is thinking of the other, missing the other, wanting the other, her wife will come to her, her spirit summoned by the beckoning call of her wife's love.Their peers and families ask them what the rings are, to which they both explain it as a mere “comradeship ring” meant to “show the purity and loyalty of their friendship”.

2. Headcanon: They're undoubtedly a pair of absolute dog moms, they live with a bunch of dogs and Mulan names them all either “Daughter” or “Son.” However, Mulan refers to all of them collectively as “Children”.3. Headcanon: Mulan has acute stress disorder from the war. She tenses up at the sound of fireworks and sometimes awakens from her sleep screaming due to nightmares. Merida is always there to calm her down, singing A Mhaighdean Bhan Uasal to her, entirely in Gaelic, to calm her down. It always works, as Mulan is always stunned by how hauntingly beautiful Merida sounds in her native language. Merida doesn't sing for/in front of anyone else but Mulan.
